Mustang student-athletes kick off year with helping hand; assist during move-in day and at the New York State Fair   

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Morrisville State student-athletes from football, field hockey, men's soccer and women's soccer took time out of their preseason training schedules Thursday, to welcome the college's freshmen class, as they assisted with moving students' into their residential halls.

For the 12th consecutive year, more than 190 student-athletes and coaches took part in the service endeavor, sharing some friendly smiles and making the process for parents and new students less stressful and more enjoyable.

Women's volleyball also assisted the college with their Bartlett Barn exhibit at the New York State Fair, allowing personnel to remain on campus to welcome its incoming class.

Additional Morrisville State intercollegiate teams will be assisting the college with their exhibits throughout the fair duration, including women's soccer, men's soccer, field hockey, men's hockey, women's hockey, men's golf, and women's lacrosse.

Active in community service initiatives, coaches and department staff combined to contribute more than 3,100 hours and $8,000 through community service initiatives during the 2016-17 academic year, exemplifying the college's commitment to serving the local and surrounding community.

Student-athletes from across 13 intercollegiate varsity athletic programs contributed hours and donations on one or more of the 44 different service projects throughout the 2016-17 year. A reported total 1,122 student-athletes (several of the department's 400 student-athletes participated in multiple projects) and department staff contributed 3,111 service hours while raising $8,035.92 in donations for various charitable organizations or causes.

In July, the Mustangs were honored by the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) as recipients of the Senior Woman Administrators Cup for a second time, which acknowledges commitment to service in the community.
