Edmond, Rankine named co-Mustang Athletes of the Week   

 

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College athletics department has announced its weekly award winners, naming football student-athletes Nick Edmond (Blythe, Calif.) and Jermaine Rankine (Newburgh, N.Y.) the co-Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending November 12.

Each played a vital role in the Mustangs season ending 37-35 win over Empire 8 rival Utica College Saturday.

Edmond led Morrisville State's offensive efforts as he collected 197 yards rushing of the team's total 294 on the day, also accounting for a touchdown score against a defense that averages just 143 yards rushing allowed per game.

In the fourth quarter, Edmond received a block around the outside and scrambled on the perimeter for a 42 yard gain, reaching his 1,000th yard rushing on the season. He finished his junior year with 1,048 yards, matching former Mustang running back Cristian Pena '15) in the season record books in the fifth overall position for most rushing yards in a single season.

Edmond also added a 1-for-2 passing effort for 40 yards on the day.

The graduate of Paloverde Valley High is majoring in business administration at Morrisville State. He is the son of Regina Edmond of Blythe, California

Rankine led the Morrisville State defensive line in the win over Utica Saturday, posting a collegiate high nine total tackles, four solo in the contest.

Three and a half tackles were recorded as sacks, for a loss of 21 total yards, also recording a pass breakup on the afternoon. Two of Rankine's sacks were in the opening quarter, dropping Utica for a loss of 18 yards.

The sophomore is a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy and is majoring in criminal justice at Morrisville State. He is the son of Mitzie Wallace and Delroy Rankine of Newburgh.

Morrisville State wrapped up the season with a 4-6 overall record, going 2-5 in Empire 8 action.
