MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College athletics department has announced its weekly award winners, naming freshmen Karoline Aarvik (Trondheim, Norway) and Alexis Campbell (Buffalo, N.Y.) its co-Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending Feb. 11.
Aarvik led Morrisville State to a 2-0 weekend sweep of Endicott with her outstanding effort in net across nearly 120 minutes of action. She began the weekend with a 43 save effort Friday night, allowing one goal, 18 of her saves came in the opening period before she added another 15 in the second for the .977 save percent effort.
Aarvik followed that performance with a 39 save outing between the pipes to collect the shutout victory, turning away 18 in the second period and another 10 in the third. Her efforts helped secure the top spot in conference standings for the Mustangs.
In all, the freshman finished with a 0.50 goals against average, while collecting 82 total stops for a .988 save percentage in net.
The freshman is a graduate of Strinda Vgs. in Norway and is majoring in business administration at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Jannicke Naess and Oddbjorn Aarvik of Trondheim.
Campbell led Morrisville State to a 1-1 week within conference play as she racked up a total 51 points, eight assists and five steals as point guard for the Mustangs. She began the week with a 24 point outing in the loss to SUNY Poly, hitting a collegiate high five three's while adding four steals and an assist to her tallies in 37 minutes of action.
Campbell followed with a collegiate high 27 in the overtime win over Wells, shooting 46.2 percent from the floor while adding three more three's to her stats on the week. In the same contest, she went 12-of-14 from the free throw line, and added seven assists, and a steal. Twelve of her game total 27 points came in the overtime period, and 15 in the second half of action.
On the week she averaged 25.5 points per game, shot 41.7 % from the floor, 86.7% from the free throw line, and averaged 4.0 assists, 2.5 steals and 2.5 rebounds per game.
A graduate of the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts, Campbell is majoring in individual studies at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Antoinette Walker and Malik Campbell of Buffalo.
