Branca, Sherlock named Mustang Athletes of the Week  

 

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College athletics department has announced its weekly award winners, naming lacrosse seniors Gianna Branca (Camillus, N.Y.) and Dan Sherlock (Tully, N.Y.) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 25.

Branca led Morrisville State to a 1-1 week, 1-0 within conference play, as she dominated the field from her attack position.

She started the week contributing to every score but one in a 21-8 loss to Utica, netting three goals and assisting four more, while adding seven draw controls to her tallies. Branca was 1-for-2 in free positions, and 83.3% in shots on goal.

She followed that performance with a collegiate high and record breaking outing in the Mustangs first NEAC win of the season, 20-5. In the contest, Branca posted four goals and a record 12 assists for 16 total points, collecting two ground balls and five draws in the game.

Her 12 assists in the single game places her in the top three for single game tallies, and second overall for points (16).

Altogether she posted 23 points in two games behind seven goals and 16 assists, an average of 3.5 goals per game and 8 assists (11.5 points per game), converting 76.9% of shots on goal, and 53.8% shots total, while collecting an average 6.0 draws per game. Branca currently leads the NEAC in assists (26) and points (46).

The senior is a graduate of West Genesee High and is majoring in nursing at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Joy Anthis and Carmen Branca of Camillus.

Sherlock assisted Morrisville State to a 1-1 record on the week behind a total 22 saves and .537 save percentage.

The senior registered 14 stops in an 11-10 win over Kings College that included five in the third quarter. He closed out the week with eight in the loss to Potsdam on Saturday.

A graduate of Tully High, Sherlock is majoring in business administration at Morrisville State. He is the son of Kathy and Brian Sherlock of Tully.
