MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – For a sixth consecutive year, Morrisville State is ranked in the final Learfield Directors' Cup Division III standings, as presented by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of America (NACDA), as the final 2017-18 standings were recently released.
Morrisville State earned a total 160.0 points across the year to finish a program best 126th out of 321 schools that received points from making an NCAA tournament or championship appearance.
The Mustangs, who finished 153rd a year ago, scored points in all three seasons as a total four teams won conference tournaments and advanced to the national stage in the NCAA Championship Tournaments.
Women's volleyball made a program first appearance in the NCAA tournament in the fall to earn the Mustangs 25 points, followed by women's ice hockey with their second straight conference title in the winter, earning 60 points towards the standings as they made a program and Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) first appearance in the NCAA's.
Women's lacrosse won their second straight North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) tournament title and appeared in the first round of the NCAA Championship Tournament, contributing 25 points, while men's lacrosse captured an opening round win after claiming their fourth straight NEAC title, adding 50 points to the year total.
Williams College repeated as Cup Champions, accumulating 1126.5 points as 16 of 18 teams contributed to the cup scoring.
Morrisville State led the way among all NEAC competitors for a fifth straight year, and was followed by Penn St. Berks who finished 138th overall behind a strong spring season to earn 141.5 points across the year.
Lancaster Bible College was 205th in the cup standings, with Keuka and Penn St. Abington rounding out all NEAC competitors with a rank of 281st.
"Morrisville State's place in this year's Learfield Cup standings is recognition of the great work being done across our program as well as a reflection that we still have work to do," Athletic Director Greg Carroll stated.
"Each year we have climbed in the rankings so there is the belief that we still have great potential as a department."
"Several programs were really close to earning NCAA bids this past year. If we can build on our past success in the coming year, the prospects for a higher finish, maybe the top 100, look really bright."
