Wolf, Edmond named Mustang Athletes of the Week  

 

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State athletics department has announced its weekly award winners, naming volleyball junior Samantha Wolf (Liverpool, N.Y.) and football senior Nick Edmond (Blythe, Calif.) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 14.

Wolf, libero, led the Mustangs defensively in a 3-1 week as they went 1-0 within conference play and 2-1 at the SUNY New Paltz Tournament.

On the week the junior tallied a total 92 digs across four matches, and added eight service aces and 18 assists in the offensive game for the Mustangs. She began the week with 12 digs and five assists in a 3-0 match win over NEAC rival Keuka, averaging 4.0 digs per set, before adding another 11 in the 3-0 match win over Bard on Friday. In that same contest, Wolf tallied another five assists and an ace.

On Saturday in the 3-1 match loss to New Paltz, she averaged 8.25 digs per set for a total 33, while adding three assists and two aces to the Mustangs efforts, before wrapping up the weekend with 36 digs in a 3-2 win over Rowan, an average of 12.0 per set as she played three sets. In that same contest she added another five assists and served up three aces, for a week average of 7.08 digs per set, 1.38 assists per set and 0.62 aces per set.

In Saturday's match against Rowan, Wolf became the first in Mustang history to collect 1500 digs.

The junior is a graduate of Liverpool High School and is majoring in business administration at SUNY Morrisville. She is the daughter of Julie and Tom Wolf of Liverpool.

Edmond, senior running back for Mustang football, collected 153 yards on 32 carries in the running game Saturday, as Morrisville State picked up a 41-24 Empire 8 win over Utica College in Morrisville.

The senior averaged 4.8 yards per carry with a long run of 29 yards to score a touchdown, and contributed 40 yards in the passing game as he connected with a wide receiver in the halfback option for a 40-yard touchdown throw.

Edmond also added one reception for six yards to his offensive game, accounting for 199 yards of the Mustangs total 445 yards offense.

The senior is a graduate of Paoloverde Valley High, and is majoring in business administration at SUNY Morrisville. He is the son of Regina Edmond of Blythe, California.
