Florio, Miller-LaBar named Mustang Athletes of the Week  

 

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State athletics department has announced its weekly award winners, naming sophomore Kirsten Florio (Wellsboro, Pa.) and freshman Joe Miller-LaBar (Groton, N.Y.) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending Oct. 21.

Florio earns the nod for athlete of the week after her role in women's volleyball capturing a weekend sweep of Gallaudet University and Lancaster Bible College.

In the 3-1 match win over Gallaudet, Florio posted seven total kills, while hitting .235 at the net, and collected five total blocks. Four of her match total kills came in the fourth set including the match point to give the Mustangs the win.

She followed with seven additional kills while hitting .545 and adding four additional blocks to her weekend totals in the 3-0 match win over Lancaster Bible. She posted five key kills in the second set, including a critical slam that evened the score at 21 and later boosted the Mustangs to the 25-23 set win over the Chargers.

A graduate of Wellsboro Area High, Florio is an individual studies major at SUNY Morrisville.

Miller-LaBar earns athlete of the week accolades after the role he played in the Mustangs second straight football win over Empire 8 opponent St. John Fisher College on Saturday.

Part of a defensive unit that limited the Cardinals to a total 160 yards offense on the day, Miller-LaBar collected a game total four tackles and a forced fumble. Three of his stops were tackles for a loss of five yards.

The freshman posted two of his stops in the third quarter, also forcing St. John Fisher to turn over the ball a second time as he forced the fumble on the Cardinals wide receiver that was recovered by the Mustangs.

The graduate of Lansing High is majoring in business administration at SUNY Morrisville.
