Rinaldi, Gardiner named Mustang Athletes of the Week  

 

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State athletics department announced its weekly award winners Wednesday, naming freshmen Angelina Rinaldi (Huntington Station, N.Y.) and Jack Gardiner (Florida, N.Y.) its Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending Oct. 28.

Rinaldi led Morrisville State women's soccer to the 5-0 win over SUNY Poly, securing a spot in the post-season for the Mustangs for a second straight season.

The freshman posted the first two goals of the day, back-to-back, and assisted on the following two scores, recording six points in the contest. Rinaldi posted a .750 SPG%.

A graduate of Walt Whitman High, Rinaldi is majoring in criminal justice at SUNY Morrisville. She is the daughter of Kelly and Anthony Rinaldi of Huntington Station.

Gardiner had a collegiate best outing against SUNY Poly on Wednesday for the men's soccer team, netting all three scores in the 3-0 NEAC win to secure a spot for the Mustangs in the post-season tournament.

The freshman posted his first on a one-touch at the 51:43 mark, added a second as he cleaned up a goalkeeper deflection in the box at the 54:16 mark, and completed his afternoon with his third score for the hat trick at 58:40 as he headed in a corner kick.

His three scores was the fastest hat trick recorded by a Mustang in the modern era, all coming within six minutes and 57 seconds time.

A graduate of SS Seward Institute, Gardiner is majoring in automotive technology at SUNY Morrisville. He is the son of Michelle and John Gardiner of Florida.
