Volleyball duo named Co-Mustang Athletes of the Week  

 

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State athletics department has announced its weekly award winners, naming senior volleyball duo Kim Dunkleman (Williamsville, N.Y.) and Helena Hanes (St. Mary's, Pa.) the Co-Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending November 4.

Dunkleman and Hanes were instrumental in leading Morrisville State volleyball to their second straight North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) tournament title, as the Mustangs swept Gallaudet University 3-0 in the semi-finals, and Lancaster Bible College 3-0 in the title game.

Dunkleman put up 44 assists to go along with four kills and three service aces in the offensive game, while contributing eight digs and three total blocks at the net in the defensive play.

The senior assisted a single match high 29 in the win over Lancaster Bible, as she also put down three kills in the championship game.

Hanes proved as effective of a force for the Mustangs in the weekend's tournament, collecting a total 28 assists while throwing down nine kills, and collecting a service ace in the offensive game. Hanes also added 12 digs and eight assisted blocks on the weekend, completing her all-around game.

The senior posted six kills and 15 assists in the championship title game, adding five digs and four assisted blocks to the game as the Mustangs thrilled the home crowd with their win.

The senior duo have combined for a total 2603 assists throughout their careers, adding 1002 kills, a total 284 service aces, 1367 digs, and 284 total blocks across 420 total sets played.

This season alone, Dunkleman and Hanes have been two key components to leading the Mustangs back to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament for a second straight season, along with posting a 25-6 overall record (their third 20+ win season) and undefeated 11-0 NEAC record.

Morrisville State volleyball will hit the court Friday at 3 p.m. against Carnegie Mellon University, the NCAA first round contest held on the campus of Ithaca College.
