Lombardi, Young named Mustang Athletes of the Week  

 

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State athletics department has announced its weekly award winners, naming hockey student-athletes, Mackenzie Lombardi (Hamilton, ON) and Jared Young (Pueblo West, Colo.) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending Jan. 27.

Lombardi notched her second hat trick of the season Saturday in a 7-3 defeat of Neumann University, collecting a total three goals and an assist for four points as the Mustangs women's hockey team swept the weekend.

She set the tone of the contest early, netting the first tally just 1:16 in, before adding another at the 16:56 mark of the first period.

Her second period score at the 12:32 mark proved to be the game winner. Lombardi finished with a +4 on ice rating in Saturday's contest.

Young backstopped the Mustangs men's team in a 2-1 loss at #3 nationally ranked Oswego, recording 42 saves for a .955 save percentage despite the loss.

The junior collected 18 stops in the opening period to keep the Lakers scoreless, before adding another 15 in the second in the conference battle.

He also was a force on the power play, where Oswego went scoreless on seven attempts.
