MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The State University of New York (SUNY) has named its Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award Recipients for the 2018-19 year, selecting men's ice hockey junior Nick DeVito (Averill Park, N.Y.) as the honoree for Morrisville State.
The SUNY Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award is the highest award given to a student-athlete in the SUNY System.
The award recognizes a combination of outstanding academic excellence and superior athletic achievement. In order to be considered for this award, student-athletes were nominated by their athletic director. Nominees then had their academic credentials and athletic accomplishments reviewed by athletic directors from across the State University system.
DeVito is a two-sport student-athlete for the Mustangs in men's golf and ice hockey, and skated his way to second team all-Conference accolades through the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) at forward this past season.
He finished the regular season with 32 points after collecting 12 goals and assisting a total 20; registering a single game high five points behind a hat trick of three goals and two assists in a win over Potsdam mid-way through January.
The junior tallied seven power play scores on the year, one short handed tally and a game winner.
He ranked third overall in the SUNYAC in scoring among all skaters and forwards, is third in goals scored, third in assists tallied and is tied for second overall in power play scores.
Across three seasons in his career in the Mustang uniform, DeVito has tallied 30 goals and assisted 41 for a total 71 points. Twelve of his scores have come on the power play.
The former Wellington Dukes player is majoring in business administration at SUNY Morrisville, where he has earned several academic accolades, including AHCA All-American Scholar-Athlete honors twice and SUNYAC All-Academic honors; while maintaining a presence on the college's Dean's or President's List.
"Nick represents everything you could hope for in a Division III student-athlete," said Morrisville State Athletic Director Greg Carroll.

DeVito is the son of Joanne and John DeVito.
