MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College western equestrian team posted two dominating victories over the weekend, claiming high point team honors in both Mustang Intercollegiate Horse Show Association events held at the Western Riding Arena in Morrisville.
In the first of the two shows on the day, Morrisville State registered eight blue ribbon rides and compiled 32 team points to claim high point honors, in part due to two individual top rides by Erika Wolf (East Hampton, Conn.) who was the victor in the open reining and open western horsemanship classes. Wolf was also collected high point rider honors for the show for the Mustangs.
In the advanced western horsemanship class, Anna Harrigan (Lancaster, N.Y.) topped the field of four to take home blue ribbon honors, before Carrie Herzog (Eden, N.Y.) claimed the top ride in the novice western horsemanship class.
Morrisville State swept the intermediate western horsemanship II class across three separate sections, with winning rides coming from Rachel Adsitt (Phelps, N.Y.), Lindsey Kubisek (Bethel, Conn.) and Sarah Linn (Olean, N.Y.).
Gina DeAngelo (Maywood, N.J.) had the top ride for Morrisville State in the intermediate western horsemanship I class to wrap up top finishes for the Mustangs in the morning show.
Cobleskill finished the show in second with 26 points, while Keuka and Colgate rounded out competition with 12 and 2 points, respectively.
In the second of the day's competition, Morrisville State took home high point team honors with 26 points, edging SUNY Cobleskill who collected 20 for reserve high point team accolades, behind seven first place finishes.
Wolf repeated as high point rider for the show, placing third overall in the open reining class before topping all riders in the open western horsemanship class.
Kiley McCusker (Simsbury, Conn.) tied for reserve high point rider honors, finishing second in the open reining class and open western horsemanship class.
Marybeth Allen (Fort Plain, N.Y.) topped the field in the novice western horsemanship class, with fellow teammate Erika Miller (Wyoming, N.Y.) earning the blue ribbon in section B.
Sierra Dexheimer (Chatham, N.Y.) and Linn were victors in the intermediate western horsemanship II class for the Mustangs, while teammate Paige Campagna (Brewster, N.Y.) and DeAngelo collected first place in the intermediate western horsemanship I class.
Morrisville State currently holds the top spot in team competition with 118 points, a narrow edge over SUNY Cobleskill who sits in second with 102 team points.
After their performances on Saturday, four qualified for the Regional Championships, including Herzog in the novice western horsemanship class, along with Kubisek, Kirsten Sheffer (Corning, N.Y.) and Jordan Sweeten (Cuba, N.Y.) in the intermediate II western horsemanship class.
Morrisville State returns to the riding arena December 7, hosting a double show at the Swamp Road Western Riding Arena.
