MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College western equestrian team split the day's action on Saturday, Nov. 12, earning reserve high point team honors in the morning before riding to high point team accolades in the afternoon, in the double show hosted by the Mustangs at the Swamp Road riding arena.
Cobleskill took home high point team honors in the morning with 32 points, Morrisville State following with 23.
Blacey Bakutis (Kent, N.Y.) collected reserve high point rider accolades placing third in open reining before earning a second place ride in the open western horsemanship class.
Lexus Hoppes (Lehighton, Pa.) earned the team's first blue ribbon of the morning with her class winning ride in novice western horsemanship, topping the field of seven for the win.
MacKenzie Smith (Castorland, N.Y.), Katelyn Bonarrigo (Raynham, Mass.), and Katherine Baldwin (Southington, Conn.) continued to dominate the intermediate western II class with top riding wins in their respective sections to round out top place finishers for the Mustangs.
In the afternoon show, Sarah Linn (Olean, N.Y.) placed second overall in the open reining class, and followed with another second in the open western horsemanship class to earn high point rider honors for the show, and give Morrisville State the win.
Morrisville State edged SUNY Cobleskill for high point team honors, earning 29 points, to the Fighting Tigers 20.
Karen Rizzone (Eden, N.Y.) also contributed to the win with her winning ride in the novice western horsemanship class among a field of eight riders, before Grace Book (Bliss, N.Y.), Baldwin and Jacqueline Fake (Dolgeville, N.Y.) each had top rides in the intermediate horsemanship II class in their respective sections.
Sierra Diamond (Schoharie, N.Y.) also collected a blue ribbon in the beginner horsemanship class, to round out top finishers for the Mustangs.
Morrisville State returns to the riding arena on Saturday, Dec. 3, hosting a double show before the holiday break.
