Morrisville State western equine team closes first half of riding season with reserve honors

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State western equestrian team closed out their first semester of show competition Saturday, earning reserve honors in both the morning and afternoon IHSA shows in the Mustangs western riding facility on Swamp Road.

Morrisville State earned 24 points to claim reserve honors in the morning segment of the day, as Cobleskill claimed high point team accolades with 26 points.

Alysha Hardy (Orange, Mass.) and Taylor Fidler (West Monroe, N.Y.) swept the novice western horsemanship class, turning in the top ride for each of their sections, before the Mustangs placed first in three of four sections in the intermediate II class.

Kaitlyn Newcomb (Webster, N.Y.), Courtney DiGirolomo (Rocky Point, N.Y.) and Michele Foland (Hudson, Mass.) each claimed the blue ribbon in the intermediate class for Morrisville State, followed by Sierra Diamond (Schoharie, N.Y.) with a top ride in the beginner western horsemanship class to round out class winners for the Mustangs.

In the afternoon show, Morrisville State rode to team reserve high point show honors as they collected 27 points. Cobleskill was show champion with 33 team points.

Blacey Bakutis (Kent, N.Y.) tied for reserve high point rider accolades, claiming third in open reining and second in open western horsemanship for the Mustangs.

Morrisville State again swept the novice class for a second time on the day, with Mikaela Cormier (Belchertown, Mass.) and Hardy taking home the blue ribbons.

The Mustangs had another show sweep in the intermediate western horsemanship II class, with wins coming from riders Stephanie Zajac (Belchertown, Mass.), Sabrina Glode (Gloversville, N.Y.), Samantha Rogers (Oakdale, Conn.) and Heather Perry (Goshen, N.Y.).

Diamond captured her second win of the day, topping the field in the beginner western horsemanship class.

Morrisville State returns to the riding arena, Sunday, February 19, hosting double show before hosting the IHSA Regional Championships on the 26th.
