Morrisville State western team rides to High Point and Reserve honors Sunday

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College western equestrian team completed the regular riding season schedule Sunday, earning high point team and reserve high point team honors in the double show.

Morrisville State edged Cobleskill in the first of the day's two shows for high point team honors, registering 37 team points, while the Fighting Tigers posted 31.

Sarah Linn (Olean, N.Y.) earned high point rider honors for the morning show following her first place ride in open reigning, also collecting a third place finish in open western horsemanship.

Lexus Hoppes (Lehighton, Pa.) also recorded a blue ribbon ride, topping the field in the advanced western horsemanship class, before Taylar Pfleegor (Horseheads, N.Y.) and Lindsey Stransky (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) swept competition in the novice western class with their winning rides.

Elyse Scott (Averill Park, N.Y.) led the field in the intermediate western horsemanship II class with her winning ride in Section A, before riders Grace Book (Bliss, N.Y.), Jacqueline Fake (Dolgeville, N.Y.) and Michele Foland (Hudson, Mass.) completed the Mustang sweep across three more sections of intermediate II horsemanship for the Mustangs.

Morrisville State and Cobleskill entered the final regular season show tied in team points with 200 through the morning, but Cobleskill claimed high point team honors in the afternoon Sunday to pull ahead of the Mustangs with a season total 234 team points. Cobleskill will represent the Region at the IHSA Semifinals as high point team for Zone 2, Region 3.

Morrisville State finished as team reserve champion with 230 points following their reserve high point team accolades in the eighth show of the season Sunday.

In the show, Blacey Bakutis (Kent, N.Y.) finished tied for high point rider honors with her first place ride in open western horsemanship.

Hoppes finished the day with her second blue ribbon showing, topping the class in advanced western horsemanship, along with Stransky who took home her second win of the day in the novice western class.

Morrisville State swept the intermediate western horsemanship II class for a second time; Raevyn Saunders (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), Heather Perry (Goshen, N.Y.), Lea Inhaber-Courchesne (Westborough, Mass.), and Scott each collected blue ribbons in their respective show sections.

Morrisville State hosts the Zone 2, Region 3 Championships Sunday at the western riding arena. The top two riders from each show class will advance to the western semifinals for a chance to compete on the national level in May.
