MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College Western Equestrian Riding Team wrapped up its regular season show schedule Sunday, hosting two shows at the college's riding arena on Swamp Road in Morrisville, finishing as reserve high point team for the season.
In the morning show, Morrisville State earned reserve show honors while Cobleskill rode to the high point team accolades. Blacey Bakutis (Kent, N.Y.) was reserve high point rider for the show, after earning a second place finish in the open reining and third place ride in open western horsemanship.
In the novice class, Katelyn Bonarrigo (Raynham, Mass.) and Ashley Newcomb (Syracuse, N.Y.) topped the field of competitors earning the first and second place rides, while teammate Lea Inhaber-Courchesne (Westborough, Mass.) earned a second place ride in the same class, section B.
Alysha Hardy (Orange, Mass.) captured the winning ride in the advanced western horsemanship class, followed by a second place ride by Mikaela Cormier (Belchertown, Mass.).
Morrisville State continued their dominance in the intermediate II western horsemanship class, placing riders in the top three spots in Section A: Emily Jurek (Perry, N.Y.), Elyse Scott (Averill Park, N.Y.) and Jacqueline Fake (Dolgeville, N.Y.) were the top three riders.
In Section B, Brianna Felton (Binghamton, N.Y.) took home the blue ribbon win.
In the afternoon show, Morrisville State tied Cobleskill for high point team honors, and Bakutis earned high point rider accolades alongside Morgan O'Sullivan from Cobleskill.
Bakutis finished third in open reining, before topping the field in the open western horsemanship class.
Inhaber-Courchesne topped the novice, section A field while Scott earned second, and Taylar Pfleegor (Horseheads, N.Y.) earned the blue ribbon win in section B.
Cormier rode her way to the top of the advanced class, as Hardy finished second.
Felton had the double-win, capturing the intermediate II, section B winning ride to wrap up the Mustang leaderboard.
Morrisville State will have eight riders competing in the IHSA Regional Championships, held Sunday, Feb. 25.
Bakutis will represent the Mustangs in open horsemanship. In the intermediate class, Grace Book (Bliss, N.Y.), Fake, Mikayla Huestis (Felts Mills, N.Y.), Jurek, Elizabeth Lederman-Updike (Beaver Dams, N.Y.), Raevyn Saunders (Burdett, N.Y.) and Scott will represent Morrisville State.
