Morrisville State reins in competition for opening season sweep  

 

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State western equestrian team opened the 2018-19 season with two high point team wins, as they toppled the competition in a double show hosted at the Swamp Road riding arena in Morrisville Sunday.

THE BASICS:

  • Team scores (Show 1): Morrisville 33, Cobleskill 20, Colgate 13
  • Team scores (Show 2): Morrisville 34. Cobleskill 20, Colgate 11
  • Show location: Swamp Road, Morrisville State Western Arena

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Blacey Bakutis (Kent, N.Y.) and Mikaela Cormier (Belchertown, Mass.) each collected high point rider honors for the morning and afternoon shows, respectively, as Bakutis collected the winning ride in the open reining class in the morning show, with a second place ride in the open western horsemanship class; and Cormier a sweep of competition in the afternoon in the same classes to capture the blue ribbons.
  • Lea Inhaber-Courchesne (Westborough, Mass.) took home a double win in each show, topping the field in the novice western horsemanship class.
  • Alysha Hardy (Orange, Mass.) captured the blue in the afternoon advanced horsemanship class competition.
  • Sienna Gussler (Carlisle, Pa.) was the top rider in the morning intermediate II western horsemanship class, along with Brianna Felton (Binghamton, N.Y.) in section B.
  • Morrisville State collected wins in each the morning and afternoon beginner western horsemanship class, with Kelli Castaldo (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and Danielle Utterback (Weedsport, N.Y.) posting the winning rides.
  • The Mustangs posted 10 total class wins across the day's action, out of 16 show classes.

WHAT'S NEXT:

  • Morrisville State returns to the riding arena Saturday, Nov. 10, hosting another dual at their western riding facility on Swamp Road in Morrisville.
