Morrisville State western team continues winning ways in riding arena  

 

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Morrisville State western equestrian continued their riding ways in a double show Saturday at their home arena, capturing high point team honors for a third time this season and reserve honors in the afternoon show.

THE BASICS:

  • Team scores (Show 1): Morrisville 36, Cobleskill 29, Colgate 9
  • Team scores (Show 2): Cobleskill 34, Morrisville State 33, Colgate 5
  • Show location: Swamp Road, Morrisville State Western Arena

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • In the morning show, Morrisville State compiled 36 team points behind high point rider Mikaela Cormier (Belchertown, Mass.) who captured a second place ride in the reining class and blue ribbon ride in the open western horsemanship class.
  • Blacey Bakutis (Kent, N.Y.) also contributed to the Mustangs high point team honor, topping the competition class in reining and finishing fourth in the open western horsemanship class
  • Elyse Scott (Averill Park, N.Y.) and Lea Inhaber-Courchesne (Westborough, Mass.) each took home wins in the novice western class within their section.
  • Alysha Hardy (Orange, Mass.) captured the blue in the afternoon advanced horsemanship class competition for a second time
  • Brianna Felton (Binghamton, N.Y.) topped the field in the intermediate II western class to round out top finishers in the morning.
  • Morrisville State compiled 33 points in the afternoon with four winning rides in the show.
  • Cormier took home two blue ribbons in the reining and open western horsemanship classes, again earning high point rider honors for a second time that day.
  • Scott and Hardy also posted wins for a second time in the day in their respective classes.
  • Morrisville State had four qualify for the regional championships in February, including Katherine Baldwin (Southington, Conn.) and Hardy in advanced western horsemanship; Inhaber-Courchesne in novice western horsemanship; and Felton in intermediate western horsemanship.

WHAT'S NEXT:

  • Morrisville State returns to the riding arena Saturday, December 1, hosting another dual at their western riding facility on Swamp Road in Morrisville. This will be the final show of the first semester, as they resume action in February.
