Western completes riding season at IHSA National Championships  

 

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State western riding team completed the 2019 season schedule at the IHSA National Championship Show held May 2-5 at the Expo Center at the New York State Fair in Syracuse, finishing eighth overall in team competition while placing three individual riders in the top eight in their respective classes.

Morrisville State finished eighth overall among nine teams competing at the championship event, with riders placing as high as fifth in their respective class.

Samantha Greefield (Middleburgh, N.Y.) was the top finisher for the Mustangs in the intermediate horsemanship class, placing fifth, while Lea Inhaber-Courchesne (Westborough, Mass.) finishing sixth in the advanced western horsemanship class.

Michaela Cormier (Belchertown, Mass.)  was seventh in open horsemanship, also finishing ninth in reining alongside Abigail Schul (Lewiston, N.Y.) who finished ninth in novice horsemanship and Julia Anderson (Sinclairville, N.Y.) ninth in beginner horsemanship.

Cormier also competed in the AQHA High Point Rider Competition, representing Region 3, and finished ninth overall among 24 total riders competing after putting together a third place ride in reining and 15th place effort in open horsemanship.

In individual competition, Elyse Scott (Averill Park, N.Y.) and Inhaber-Courchesne each placed in the top eight of the novice class riders; Scott with a fourth place ride, and Inhaber-Courchesne an eighth place finish.

Kelli Castaldo (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) also placed in individual competition among the 12 competing riders, finishing seventh overall in beginner western horsemanship.
