Skidmore edges Morrisville State; Mustangs reserve high point team in Saratoga

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College hunt seat team took host Skidmore College class-for-class in a tight competition Saturday afternoon, before ending up reserve high point team at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) competition in Saratoga Springs.

Skidmore was high point team with 40 points, while the Mustangs collected 38 in one of the best outings of the season. Siena finished third with 33 points, while Cobleskill, Hartwick, Oneonta, Colgate, Albany, RPI, Union and Keuka rounded out the team competition.

Seven Mustangs posted top rides, including Rachel Kenney (Esperance, N.Y.) who took home the blue ribbon in the open equitation on the flat class.

Jessica Gurda (Warwick, N.Y.) also collected a blue ribbon, topping the field in the intermediate equitation over fences class, qualifying for the regional championships.

Katie Mays (Newtan, N.Y.) posted a winning ride in the intermediate over fences class, while teammate Caroline Detzi (Pen Argyl, Pa.) was first in the novice flat class, along with Sarah May (Washington, N.J.).

Katie Lamb (Mexico, N.Y.) took home a blue ribbon in the novice equitation over fences class.

Alexis D'Auria (Cronton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) topped the advanced walk trot canter competition, qualifying for regionals this spring.

In all, Morrisville State placed 18 riders in the top three of each showing class, with seven taking home blue ribbons, six claiming second place, and five finishing third.

The Mustangs have earned reserve high point team accolades in three out of four shows already this season and will return to the riding arena February 15 following break.
