MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College hunt seat equestrian team registered two great shows over the weekend, earning reserve show champion honors on each Saturday and Sunday, also serving as hosts for the events.
On Saturday, the Mustangs claimed reserve champion honors, falling just one team point short of show champion Skidmore who tallied 41 team points on the day at the 11 team event.
On the day, Morrisville State claimed seven class victories, including two from Morgan Wilsberg (Mattituck, N.Y.) who posted blue ribbon rides in the open flat and open fences classes, respectively, earning reserve high point rider honors following a ride-off.
Caroline Detzi (Pen Argyl, Pa.) was also a victor in her respective classes, displaying the top ride in the novice flat and intermediate fences classes.
Chelsea Hooole-Shlakman (Huntington, N.Y.) also took home blue ribbon honors in the novice equitation on the flat class, with teammate Alexis D'Auria (Cronton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) posted a victory for the Mustangs in her section of novice flat.
Tomara Bodnaruik (Glen Spey, N.Y.) topped the field in beginner walk trot canter, rounding out top place finishers for the Mustangs.
Detzi and teammate Lindsey Kubisek (Bethel, Conn.) each qualified for the regional championships following their rides in their respective classes: Detzi in novice flat, and Kubisek in walk trot canter.
On Sunday, Morrisville State took home reserve show champion honors with a 36 point team performance, behind 12 class wins. Skidmore was again show champion with 43.
The Mustangs made a clean sweep in all five novice equitation over fences classes, adding another sweep in the advanced walk trot canter classes to contribute to the success on the day.
Jovan Daniel (Syracuse, N.Y.), Amanda Varall (Bohemia, N.Y.), Megan Hunsinger (Cato, N.Y.), Sarah May (Washington, N.J.) and Dana Morgan (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) each took home the blue ribbon in the novice equitation over fences class for Morrisville State, as May added another top ride in the novice equitation on the flat class.
Taylor Jurek (Perry, N.Y.), Alexis Terruli (Rochester, N.Y.), Megan Coffey (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) and Anna Harrigan (Lancaster, N.Y.) each were victors in the advanced walk trot canter class for the Mustangs.
Harrigan qualified for regionals following her ride.
Nicole Achtyl (North Collins, N.Y.) posted a top ride for Morrisville State in the walk trot class.
Morrisville State returns to the riding arena Saturday, traveling to Skidmore.
