BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Visiting Morrisville State College dropped their second straight road battle Saturday afternoon as #13 ranked The College at Brockport soared to the 48-7 Empire 8 victory in Brockport.
The loss drops the Mustangs to 2-4 to date on the season, including a 0-3 conference record. Brockport remains undefeated at 6-0 overall, 4-0 within the Empire 8.
Morrisville State, who has had a dual threat passing and running offensive attack throughout the first half of the season, was halted in their tracks by the hosts Saturday, mustering a mere 168 yards total offense, 145 in the passing game.
Brandon Gwinner (Schenectady, N.Y.) went 8-for-18 for 72 yards, before Bill Flatow (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) added a 4-for-11 effort for 73 yards and the Mustangs lone touchdown score.
Morrisville State's completions were dispersed among seven in the receiving unit, including four to Raffaele Bradshaw (Westbury N.Y.) who registered 29 yards.
Michael Bodnar (Miller Place, N.Y.) and Kendell Clarke (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Mustangs defense efforts, each registering double digit tackles; Bodnar a team high 13 and Clarke 12.
Brockport rattled off three scores in the opening quarter, for the 21-0 first quarter lead, before adding three additional scores in the second for the commanding 38-0 halftime advantage.
After adding two additional tallies in the third, Morrisville State was able to break through in the closing minute of the game, as Flatow hit Jermaine Cooper (New York, N.Y.) on a one-yard scoring pass play, making it a 48-7 final score.
Brockport registered 503 yards total offense in the contest, 286 through the air. Quarterback J. Germinerio went 19-for-23 for 288 yards and three scores, hitting leading Brockport receiver J. Ortiz six times for 63 yards and a score. Germinerio also connected with D. Hubbard three times for 70 yards and a score, and J. Morrison once for the 10-yard scoring touchdown.
C. Abalos led all ball carriers with 79 net yards on 17 carries as Brockport posted 217 yards gained on the ground.
Morrisville State returns to the field next Saturday, hosting SUNY Cortland at 1 p.m. on Drake Field in Morrisville.
