MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Empire 8 Conference office announced its 2017 Football All-Conference Offensive and Defensive Teams Thursday, selecting five from Morrisville State to its first, second and honorable mention teams.
Petrit Boga (Bronx, N.Y.) earned the nod as a first team offense honoree, with fellow offensive teammates Nick Edmond (Blythe, Calif.) and Marcus Thompson (Syracuse, N.Y.) getting recognition with second team accolades. Senior Tyler Cowley (Brooklyn, N.Y.) earned honorable mention honors.
Boga, tight end, finished the season with 20 receptions for 242 yards to average 12.1 yards per catch on the year. His three touchdowns contributed to the offensive unit that was able to rack up a second league best 29.3 points per game and third best 406.9 yards per game.
Morrisville State was able to move the ball behind the power of second team selection Edmond, who at running back, ranked second overall in the Empire 8 in yards per game, averaging 116.4 as he amassed 1,048 on 199 carries for the year.
Thompson and Cowley anchored the offensive line for the Mustangs, starting all 10 contests for the unit.
Defensively, senior Greg Elliott (Hubbardsville, N.Y.) wrapped up his final season with second team accolades, recording 62 tackles and 3.5 sacks on the season for a 6.2 per game tackle average.
Morrisville State finished the 2017 campaign with a 4-6 overall record, posting a 2-5 conference slate to finish sixth overall in the Empire 8 standings.
