Cowley named Empire 8 Sportsman of the Year   

 

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Empire 8 announced its Football Sportsman of the Year Awards Thursday, selecting Morrisville State College senior captain Tyler Cowley (Brooklyn, N.Y.) as the 2017 honoree for the Mustangs.

Cowley, a four year starter for the Mustangs on the offensive line, was also honored with honorable mention All-Conference accolades this season.

The Sportsman of the Year Team award goes to one member of each team within the Empire 8 that distinguish themselves and consistently exhibits the critical traits as outstanding sportsman.

The Empire 8 emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission.

"Tyler has been a great representative of Morrisville State College football over his 4-year career, starting all four years on our offensive line unit," said head coach Curt Fitzpatrick. 

"He plays with toughness and class, and in doing so is a tremendous role model for his younger teammates.  We are certainly going to miss Tyler's leadership and consistency."

A graduate of Abraham Lincoln High, Cowley is majoring in criminal justice at Morrisville State. He is the son of Debra and James Cowley of Brooklyn.
