Garcia tabbed Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week  

 

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Empire 8 Conference Office announced its weekly award winners in the sport of Football Monday afternoon, selecting Morrisville State sophomore safety Jose Garcia (New York, N.Y.) the Defensive Player of the Week following stellar play on Saturday in a conference win over Utica.

The sophomore recorded a collegiate high 15 total tackles, 10 of which were solo stops in the team's 41-24 win over Utica Saturday in E8 action.

Garcia also recorded an interception and pass break up, and was part of the defensive unit that forced two Pioneer turnovers that resulted in touchdowns in the contest.

Currently ranked 11th overall in the conference in tackles, Garcia averages 7.7 stops per game for the Mustangs, recording a total 46 to date on the season.

A graduate of High School for Health Careers and Science, Garcia is majoring in criminal justice at SUNY Morrisville. He is the son of Adelma Garcia of New York City.
