Morrisville Field Hockey Shuts Out New England College, 3-0

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Field Hockey team picked up their first win of the season as they shut out New England College on the road by a score of 3-0.

The Mustangs made the most of their limited scoring chances, converting 9 shots into three goals.  Freshman Brianna Fischetti (Wading River, N.Y.) put the visitors on the board in the 21st minute.  Fischetti took an end line pass from Lauren Kellum (Morrisville, N.Y.), which drew the New England College keeper out of position, and deposited the ball into the back of the cage.  The goal was Fischetti's first of her collegiate career.

Eight minutes and change later, Allyson Flurer (Kunkletown, Pa.) scored unassisted putting the Mustangs up 2-0.

Despite several shots on goal, Morrisville was unable to provide the exclamation point to their victory until late in the 68th minute of play.  The Mustangs earned only their third penalty corner of the game and capitalized on the opportunity.  After the insert pass, Kellum dished over to Flurer who drove home goal number 3 in the game, and her third of the season.  Kellum earned her second assist of the day on the play.

Morrisville also stepped up defensively, limiting the host Pilgrims to just 3 shots on goal.  Freshman goalkeeper, Meredith Koziol (Waterford, N.Y.) stopped all three for the first shutout and win of her college career.

The Mustangs will look to continue their momentum as they travel to Hartwick College on Tuesday afternoon for a 4:00 PM start.
