Balanced attack leads Morrisville State field hockey past Bryn Athyn, 4-2, in NEAC road battle

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – Four different Morrisville State College field hockey players posted scores Friday night as they took down host Bryn Athyn College by a 4-2 final in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action in Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania.

The Mustangs wrap up their NEAC schedule with an undefeated 4-0 record, improving to 5-10 overall on the year. The Lions drop to 2-11 overall, 0-4 in NEAC play, in their first year as a program.

Morrisville State posted two goals each in the first and second halves of play, including the first a mere four minutes into the contest. Hayley Fonfara (Elma, N.Y.) collected the tally, knocking the ball on a scramble in front of net past Lion keeper Macey Mitchell 4:22 in for the early 1-0 lead.

Ten minutes later, Morrisville State extended their lead to two, as Brianna Fischetti (Wading River, N.Y.) collected the rebound off an initial Lauren Kellum (Eaton, N.Y.) shot and found the inside of the post for her first score of the year.

The hosts were able to get one back at the 19:16 mark, beating Morrisville State keeper Joelle Freiermuth (Marcy, N.Y.) inside the right post to cut the deficit to one.

Much like the opening half, Morrisville State came out of the games quickly in the second, regaining their two goal advantage with an Elizabeth Leva (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) score nearly two minutes into the final period. Haley Evarts (Irondequoit, N.Y.) found Leva open on the left post for the chip.

Evarts collected one of her own at 60:15, poking the rebound on the right post into the back of the cage for the three goal advantage. Fischetti was credited with the assist after her initial shot sailed off the pads of Mitchell to the stick of Evarts.

Bryn Athyn converted a penalty stroke late in the contest to pull within two, but it wasn't enough as Morrisville State collected the win.

Freiermuth registered one save in the win, as Morrisville State held the commanding 35-3 advantage in shots and 16-1 benefit in penalty corners. Mitchell finished with 21 stops in the loss.

Morrisville State returns to the field Wednesday, traveling to Union College for a 6 p.m. non-league contest.
