Field Hockey Finishes Season with Road Loss to Houghton

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Field Hockey team ended their 2017 campaign on Saturday afternoon with an 8-2 loss on the road at Houghton.

Houghton got on the board early just under 9 minutes into the game for the 1-0 advantage.  The Mustangs were able to knot the score at 23:28 when Hayley Fonfara (Elma, N.Y.) tallied an unassisted score.

The tie would be short-lived as the Mustangs gave up two goals, one at the 28:29 mark and another at the 33:44 mark for the 3-1 Houghton lead.

Just as time expired though in the second half, Morrisville's leading scorer Elizabeth Leva (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) would find the back of the cage off of a pass from Haley Evarts (Irondequoit, N.Y.) to bring the Mustangs within one.

Morrisville and Houghton continued to play tight throughout the first fifteen minutes of the second half.  However, a second half surge from Houghton put the Mustangs away as the home squad tallied 4 goals in a five minute span and a fifth with just under two minutes remaining in the game to put the game away, 8-2.
