MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Morrisville State field hockey dropped their season opener 5-0 to visiting Nazareth College Friday afternoon on Drake Field in Morrisville, but showed promise as they held the Golden Flyers scoreless in the second half of action.

Freshman Morgan Dueber (Owego, N.Y.) had a stellar debut in net for the Mustangs, making a combined 19 saves that included 10 in the first half of play.

Nazareth struck early, netting the first goal of the game just 1:46 in off a penalty corner that was fed to Madison Bianchi at the top of the circle. Leah Good collected the assist.

Bianchi struck again in the 16th minute with an unassisted tally for the 2-0 visitor lead, collecting the loose ball at the top of the circle and firing the score into the back of the cage 10 yards out.

Jennifer Hilts would add to the Nazareth total in the 24th minute on a flick over Dueber, before Mikaylee Whalen posted the fourth Golden Flyer score, a tip off the initial shot by Good.

The final visitor dagger came in the 33rd minute as Good collected the corner feed and lifted the ariel shot into the upper left corner of the cage for the 5-0 advantage.

Kim Nourse posted the win in net for Nazareth, collecting one save in 48 minutes of play, before being replaced by Amanda Chuttey for the final 22. Chuttey added two stops.
