MARCY, N.Y. – Host SUNY Polytechnic shot 50% from the floor Wednesday evening, and drained 10 from long range, en route to a 80-69 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory over visiting Morrisville State College men's basketball in Marcy.
Kevin Dennis (Bronx, N.Y.) recorded a game high 25 points and 13 rebounds for his ninth double-double of the year, leading the Mustang efforts, while adding four steals and three blocked shots to his tallies on the night.
Kenny Bonaparte (Soundview, N.Y.) contributed 12 points, while teammates Trent Ward (Auburn, N.Y.) and Tyrin Miller (White Plains, N.Y.) registered six to go along with a combined two assists and two steals.
SUNY Poly controlled the pace of the game from the get go, claiming a five point lead just over four minutes in and not relinquishing the lead before increasing their advantage to seven at the half, 37-30.
Within the opening minutes of the second half, Morrisville State was able to make it a three-point game after a layup by Bonaparte, but SUNY Poly went on a 12-2 run over the next three minutes to increase their lead to 13 midway through the period.
A 12-3 offensive blast by the Mustangs brought the game within seven, and a layup by Dennis just over a minute later cut the lead to six, but a 9-1 run by SUNY Poly regained the double digit lead for the hosts with just three to go on the clock.
After two free throws by Ward and a layup by Dennis, Steve Dolgos (Geneva, N.Y.) drained a bucket from beyond the arc further fueling the Mustang's 11-0 run, making it a three-point ball game with 1:24 showing on the clock.
That momentum was short lived, however, as SUNY Poly found their offensive rhythm and put the game away by closing out the half with 10 of the final 12 points of the contest to claim the conference victory.
Morrisville State will look to rebound from the loss Saturday as they host Wilson College at 3 p.m. in Morrisville, before facing NEAC undefeated Gallaudet University on Sunday.
