MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Sophomore Tyrin Miller (White Plains, N.Y.) drained six from long range and collected 22 points on the afternoon to lead the host Morrisville State College Mustangs to a 72-60 non-conference win over visiting SUNY Canton in Morrisville.
The victory pulls the Mustangs ahead to 5-4 overall, as they return to the court for a final time in 2017 Sunday, travelling to SUNY Delhi tomorrow afternoon for a 2 p.m. tip.
Miller, who was one of four Mustangs in double figures, nailed 6-of-10 from beyond the arc, while adding three rebounds, to lead all scorers on the day.
Kevin Dennis (Bronx, N.Y.) added 11 points and nine rebounds, while teammates Derek Beames (Otego, N.Y.) and Brison Hall (Syracuse, N.Y.) each netted 10. Beames also had seven rebounds on the day.
Trent Ward (Auburn, N.Y.) dished out a team high eight assists, with fellow Mustangs Stefan Marchlewski (Wloclawek, Poland) and Kyle Peck (Oneida, N.Y.) each recorded five.
Adrian Williams led the Roo efforts with 17 points, six rebounds and five assists, while teammate Jordan Stewart added 11 points and six boards.
Morrisville State controlled much of the opening half, posting a 31-15 lead at the break. The Mustangs opened with a 10-0 run to start the contest, and maintained the double digit difference as Canton saw their offensive game struggle, shooting a mere 20.7% from the floor in the first.
The Mustangs got off to a slow start in the second half, while Canton put together a 13-2 spurt of their own over the first five minutes of the period, cutting the Morrisville State lead to just five with 15:39 remaining.
Back-to-back buckets by Peck regained the double digit lead for the hosts, before a three by Deon Foster again brought the Roos within striking distance.
Miller matched two straight long balls by the Roos with two of his own, and added a jumper from the top of the paint minutes later to regain a 15 point advantage for the hosts with just under seven to go.
Another three by Miller widened the gap to 17, and Canton struggled to overcome the deficit as the Mustangs posted the win.
Morrisville State finished shooting 49.2% from the floor, including 42.1% from beyond the arc.
