Morrisville State men tame ‘Cats, collect 97-72 NEAC win over Penn College  

 

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College men's basketball team picked up a 97-72 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory Saturday afternoon, handing visiting Penn College the 97-72 league loss on the Mustangs home court in Morrisville.

The win is the fourth straight for the Mustangs, as they improve to 9-7 overall, 7-1 within NEAC standings. Penn College drops to 2-14, 1-6 in conference action.

Five posted double figures for the Mustangs, including Tyrin Miller (White Plains, N.Y.) who led the way with 19 points, draining four from beyond the arc while contributing three rebounds and two assists on the afternoon.

Freshman Brison Hall (Syracuse, N.Y.) added 16 points, snagging six boards, while stealing two. Trent Ward (Auburn, N.Y.) added 12, to go along with three assists, while teammates Kyle Peck (Oneida, N.Y.) and Kevin Dennis (Bronx, N.Y.) each added 11. Dennis snagged nine rebounds and Peck dished out seven assists in the win.

Penn College had three net double figures, led by Spencer Bartron who collected 19, while teammates Robert Young and James Bullock each netted 14. Bullock had a double-double with 11 rebounds, adding three steals.

Morrisville State held the slight three-point edge over Penn College with 4:21 to go in the opening half before putting together a 16-3 run to close out the half and carry a 49-33 lead into the break. They dominated the paint, outscoring the Wildcats 26-6, while adding another 13 off Wildcat miscues.

In similar fashion, the hosts opened the second half in the same manner as they ended the first, going on a 23-2 offensive blitz over the first seven minutes of the period, as they opened up the gap to a significant 35 point lead.

Penn College was able to cut the deficit to 17, but Morrisville State was able to maintain their distance, capturing the conference win.

Morrisville State outgained the Wildcats on the board, 50-36, and in shooting on the floor, 46.3% to 40.3% on the day.

The Mustangs return to the court Tuesday, hosting Keuka College at 5 p.m. in Morrisville.
