Morrisville State men end regular season with win on road at Alfred State, 82-71  

 

ALFRED, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College men's basketball team concluded the regular season slate on the road Friday night, topping host Alfred State College 82-71 on the road in Alfred.

Morrisville State (17-8) will wait for tournament seeding as announced by the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) office this weekend.

Kevin Dennis (Bronx, N.Y.) led all scorers with 19 points on the night, adding eight rebounds in 22 minutes of action while fellow forward Derek Beames (Otego, N.Y.) came off the bench to add 17.

Senior guard Trent Ward (Auburn, N.Y.) contributed 12 points, including a long range bucket from the left wing at the 11:13 mark in the second half that put him over the top as the all-time scoring leader in program history, breaking the 61 year old record held by Jim Weeks since 1957.

Morrisville State held the 45-31 advantage on the glass, with junior Kyle Peck (Oneida, N.Y.) adding seven to go along with his game total nine points, four assists and two steals.

Alfred jumped out to an early three point lead just over a minute in before Morrisville State put together a 17-2 run to open the gap to 12 with back to back three's by Beames.

Morrisville State went on to lead 36-25 at the half, and continued persistent play in the second maintaining the advantage as they collected the non-conference win to wrap up the regular season.

The Mustangs currently sit atop the NEAC North Division with a 14-2 overall conference record. They will learn their next opponent Sunday evening.
