Big second half propels Morrisville State men past York (N.Y.), 87-73  

 

CLINTON, N.Y. – The Morrisville State men's basketball team used a fierce shooting second half and 12-0 run to open the margin to a double digit lead over York (N.Y.) Saturday evening at the Hamilton College tip-off Tournament as they collected the 87-73 first round victory in Clinton.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Morrisville State shot 53.6% in the second half, and outgained the Cardinals 49-38 in the period, collecting the win.
  • Junior forward Kevin Dennis (Bronx, N.Y.) collected a double-double with 23 points and 17 rebounds in 27 minutes of play, hitting a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line. Thirteen of Dennis' points came in the second half of action.
  • Four additional teammates notched double digits, including Justin Mitchell (Newburgh, N.Y.) who added 15, also contributing two steals and three rebounds to the Mustangs tallies on the day.
  • Tyrin Miller (White Plains, N.Y.) drained three from beyond the arc, collecting a total 14 points; while teammates Lamel Faison (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Derek Beames (Otego, N.Y.) each added 12.
  • Morrisville State dominated the glass 50-32, in part with their 19 offensive boards, and forced 15 York turnovers that resulted in 16 points.

  • Morrisville State returns to the court for the second the tournament's scheduled action tomorrow afternoon, facing Centenary (N.J.) at 2 p.m. in Clinton.
