MARCY, N.Y. – Junior forward Kevin Dennis (Bronx, N.Y.) posted his fifth straight double-double Saturday afternoon, but did so with career high numbers, as he posted 35 points and added 32 rebounds to lead visiting Morrisville State men's basketball to a thrilling 91-89 double overtime win over cross town rival SUNY Polytechnic in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action in Marcy.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Morrisville State outlasted SUNY Polytechnic through two overtime periods to claim their opening NEAC win behind a career high double-double from junior forward Kevin Dennis (Bronx, N.Y.).
  • Dennis registered 35 points as he went 10-for-18 from the floor and 15-for-19 from the charity stripe, collecting the double-double as he snagged a program single game high 32 boards in the NCAA era. Nine of his rebounds came on the offensive glass, as Dennis also added three steals and two assists to his tallies in the win.
  • Twelve of Dennis' points and 10 rebounds came in the two overtime frames for the Mustangs.
  • Three additional teammates posted double figures in the win, including Justin Mitchell (Newburgh, N.Y.) who came off the bench to contribute 15 points, while Tyrin Miller (White Plains, N.Y.) posted 14, to go with four rebounds.
  • Lamel Faison (Brooklyn, N.Y.) posted 10 to round out the leaderboard for the Mustangs, dishing out three assists, but most importantly adding two free throws to seal the win for the Mustangs with 0.8 seconds remaining in the second overtime frame,
  • Morrisville State shot 37.2% from the floor on the day, hit 72.2% from the free throw line, and outgained Poly 53-46 on the glass.
  • Josh Gregory led the Poly efforts with 29 points and 14 rebounds, while teammate Redell Freeman collected 28 points on six three's, and Jaylin Gray 10 points and five assists for the Wildcats.
  • Poly battled back from a 15 point halftime deficit with a 49 point second half, but both teams played nearly even throughout the remainder of the contest until the Mustangs gained the final advantage as time ticked down in the overtime frame.

WHAT'S NEXT:

  • Morrisville State returns to the court Wednesday, hosting Route 20 Rival Cazenovia for a 7 p.m. tip off on the Mustangs home court.
