Morrisville State men’s hockey falls to Geneseo in season opener

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College men's hockey team dropped their home season opener against SUNY Geneseo Friday night. The Knights jumped out to an early lead, and held onto the game for a 4-1 finish.

Geneseo scored three goals in the first period, two of them scored within the first two and half minutes for a 3-0 lead after the opening 20 minutes. The second period was scoreless for both teams.

The Knights struck 5 minutes into the third off a cleanup in front of the net.  The Mustangs responded with a wraparound goal from Layne Martin (Findlay, Ohio) behind the crease, catching Horrigan on the right post, out of position.  This was Martin's first collegiate goal.  Daryen Young (Woodstock, Ontario) and Matthew Beer (Corunna, Ontario) assisted on the goal.

Steven Dombrosky (Elizabethtown, PA) recorded 25 saves for the day.

The Mustangs will host the Knights tomorrow at 3 p.m. in the Ice Plex.
