CANTON, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College men's ice hockey team posted three scores in the third period, but it wasn't enough as host SUNY Canton claimed the 5-4 non-conference decision Friday night in Canton.
The loss drops the Mustangs to 4-6-4 overall, as they return to the ice Saturday hosting Southern New Hampshire University.
Canton posted the lone score of the first period to hold the 1-0 advantage after the opening frame, before a sniper by Jordan Carvalho (Brampton, Ontario) found the back of the net just 1:41 into the second to even the contest for the Mustangs.
The Roos regained the one goal lead minutes later with an unassisted tally, and were able to keep the Mustangs off the scoreboard for the remainder of the period to carry the 2-1 advantage into the final frame.
Seconds into the third period, a score by Joseph Santino (Woodbridge, Ontario) knotted the game at two, and at 8:36 Morrisville State took its first lead of the night with the lone power play goal of the night off the stick of John Doyle (New Lowell, Ontario).
Within four minutes time late in the final stanza, Canton rallied for three straight goals, including an empty net score, to claim a 5-3 lead.
Alex Huizenga (Grand Rapids, Mich.) posted the final Mustang tally with three seconds showing in regulation to make it a 5-4 game, but Morrisville State ran out of time as Canton collected the victory.
Carvalho finished the contest with a one goal, three assist effort, while Doyle had a one score, two assist night.
Jakob Rasmussen (Vallentuna, Sweden) posted the loss between the pipes for Morrisville State, with a 28 save effort.
