Morrisville State wins thriller over Fredonia State

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State (6-8-5, 4-5-2 SUNYAC) men's ice hockey team found the back of the net late in third to solidify the 5-4 victory over SUNYAC opponent Fredonia State. 

Matt Beer (Corunna, Ontario) recorded his first of two goals on the night late in the first period to take the lead.  Steve Dol (Ingersoll, Ontario) and Zach Baker (Denver, CO) chipped in for the assists.  Less than two minutes later, the Blue Devils tied the game shorthanded to bring the end of the period 1-1.

Fredonia took their first lead of the night, just over eight minutes into the second period, but it didn't last long.  Jordan Carvalho (Brampton, Ontario) tied it up off assists from MJ Maerkl (Binghamton, N.Y.) & Joseph Santino (Woodbridge, Ontario), leaving the score tied once again.

Five goals were scored in the third period between the two teams.  Beer recorded the first for the third period from Zach Baker and Steve Dol.  The Blue Devils would net the next two to take the lead 4-3 with twelve minutes remaining.  Jordan Carvalho recorded his second off another assists from MJ Maerkl & Marc-Antoine Chaput to the the game at 4's with eight minutes left. Layne Martin had the game winner from Rob Molinaro & Alex Huizenga less than two minutes later.

Steven Dombrosky (Elizabethtown, PA) recorded the win with 28 saves.

The Mustangs return to the ice tomorrow at 7 p.m. as they once again host Fredonia State.
