Morrisville State hockey suffers 6-2 setback to Oswego

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College men's ice hockey team suffered a setback Friday night, dropping a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) contest against host Oswego State by a 6-2 final in Oswego.

The loss halts the Mustangs three-game winning streak and drops them to 7-9-5 overall, 5-6-2 in conference play.

Morrisville State held Oswego scoreless for nearly the opening 10 minutes of the contest before the Lakers were able to notch a score at the 9:54 mark, before the Mustangs MJ Maerkl (Binghamton, N.Y.) evened the contest at one with a power play rifle off feeds from Darren Young (Woodstock, Ontario) and Layne Martin (Findlay, Ohio) at 16:56.

The hosts were able to regain the lead in the second period, notching two scores to claim the 3-1 advantage heading into the final stanza.

Defenseman John Lauer (Syracuse, N.Y.) brought the Mustangs within one midway through the third, registering his first collegiate score at 11:13, but Oswego responded with three straight tallies over four minutes time to claim the conference win.

Steven Dombrosky (Elizabethtown, PA) registered the loss in net for Morrisville State, turning away 46 in the efforts across three periods.

Morrisville State returns to the ice Saturday in the second of the weekend double against Oswego. Face off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
