Mustangs Drop Season Opener to Potsdam 2-1 in OT

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Men's Ice Hockey team dropped their season opener 2-1 on Friday night at SUNY Potsdam.

The host Bears took a 1-0 lead 12 minutes into the first period when Billy Pascalli netted the power play goal.  The game would remain scoreless throughout the rest of the first period and all of the second period.

The Mustangs got on the board early in the third period, knotting the game up at one goal apiece. Jimmy Philbin (Chicago, Ill.) found the back of the net for his first goal of his career.  John Lauer (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Storm Adams (Akwesasne, N.Y.) picked up the assists for Morrisville.

With the score tied, the first contest for both teams headed into an overtime period. Unfortunately for the Mustangs, Potsdam wasted little time, picking up the game winner off the stick of Matt Thompson a minute twenty into OT.

Steven Dombrosky took the loss in goal for the Mustangs despite turning away 28 of 30 shots on goal.

Morrisville will return to the ice tomorrow night in their home arena as Potsdam makes the return SUNYAC trip. The puck is set to drop in the Mustangs' home opener at 7 PM.
