Liscio's Hat-Trick Propels Mustangs to 7-5 Win Over Becker

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State men's ice hockey team took to their home ice for the first time in 2016 and treated the home crowd to a 7-5 win.

The Mustangs scored early and then began to score often.  Danny Liscio (Woodbridge, Ontario) broke through the Becker defensive line just 24 seconds into the first period for the 1-0 advantage.  CJ Stubbs (Pleasant Grove, Vt.) and Joe Ftoma (Winnipeg, Manitoba) assisted on the play.

Becker responded not even a minute later with a goal of their own to tie the game up at one goal apiece.  Jordan Carvalho (Brampton, Ontario) gave the edge back to the Mustangs at the 7:27 mark.  Joseph Santino (Woodbridge, Ontario) and Darren Young (Woodstock, Ontario) picked up the assists.

Liscio extended the Mustang lead to 3-1 late in the first period.  Liscio then proceeded to pick up the hat-trick just 45 seconds into the second period for a 4-1 Morrisville advantage.

It looked as though the Mustangs were headed for a route when Layne Martin (Findley, Ohio) found the back of the net for his first goal of the season.  Unfortunately, a 5-1 lead was not enough as Becker scored four un-answered goals in the second half of the second period for a 5-all score.

With the score knotted at 5-5, the Mustangs' captain, Santino took the rebound from Young's original shot and found the back of the net for the 6-5 lead.  Carvalho also assisted on the play.  With just over three minutes remaining in the game, Tyler Lepore (London, Ontario) tacked on an insurance goal for the Mustangs.  John Lauer (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Storm Adams (Akwesasne, N.Y.) added assists.

Steve Dombrosky (Elizabethtown, Pa.) picked up the win in the net after coming into the game off the bench to start the third period.  Dombrosky denied all eleven shots he faced.

The Mustangs will be back in action on their home ice on Tuesday, January 12 as they host Post University at 3 PM.
