Mustang Men Settle for 3-3 OT Tie at Cortland

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Men's Ice Hockey team were forced to settle for a 3-3 overtime tie at SUNY Cortland on Saturday night in a back and forth contest.

CJ Stubbs (Pleasant Grove, Utah) put the Mustangs on the board first at the 8:38 mark in the first period.  Joseph Santino (Woodbridge, Ontario) and Jordan Carvalho (Brampton, Ontario) provided the assists.

The Red Dragons responded quickly, evening the score two minutes later on a power play goal at the 10:42 mark.  Cortland scored again at the 16:15 mark to take a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period.

Morrisville was able to capitalize on a power play opportunity of their own at the 7:22 mark, when Henry Hearon (Chicago, Ill.) knotted the game up at 2-2.  Once again, Santino and Carvalho supplied the assists.

The back and forth battle continued as Cortland went up 3-2 at the 12:59 mark in the second.  However, the Mustangs responded again early in the third on a Carvalho power play goal to tie the game up at 3-3.  Santino and Stubbs assisted on the goal.

Despite matching each other shot-for-shot for the remainder of the third period and into overtime, neither the Red Dragons nor the Mustangs could break through to find the game winner.

The SUNYAC series will continue tomorrow night on the campus of Morrisville State as the Mustangs will celebrate Senior Night.  Puck is set to drop in the Ice Plex at 7 PM.
