Mustangs Blanked at Home by #5 Oswego State

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Men's Ice Hockey team was blanked at home on Friday night in the opening night of their State Universities of New York Athletic Conference series against the Lakers from Oswego State.

Oswego opened the scoring at the 2:28 mark in the first period as David Ferreira slipped a wrap-around goal just past the outstretched skate of Morrisville's goaltender.

The Mustangs found themselves on their heels in the middle of the second period as Ferreira scored his second of the game at the 6:25 mark.  Tensions rose as the Lakers went up 2-0.  Consequently, both teams were whistled for coincidental penalties.  Unfortunately, the Mustangs were also whistled for one more, causing a Lakers' power play starting at 7:14.  Oswego was able to capitalize at the 8:51 mark to extend their lead to 3-0.

The visiting Lakers gave themselves a cushion just under a minute into the third as Michael Gillespie scored his eighth of the year.

The Mustangs were granted two power play opportunities in the third, but Oswego killed both penalties to preserve the 4-0 shutout victory.

Both teams will return to Morrisville State's IcePlex tomorrow evening for the series finale at 7:00 PM.
