Morrisville State posts second straight win, powers past University of New England 10-3

BIDDEFORD, MAINE – The Morrisville State College men's lacrosse team used a four goal third quarter to push past host University of New England 10-3 in non-conference action Monday afternoon in Biddeford, Maine.

The win is the second straight for the Mustangs on the season, as they improve to a 2-0 overall mark. New England drops to 0-2 overall.

Six different Mustangs notched tallies on the day, including junior Brendan Shannon (Stanhope, N.J.) who posted a team high three goals and added an assist to lead Morrisville State in the win. Teammate Louie Geswaldo (Lafayette, N.Y.) collected two scores and assisted another, as Jeremy Beresovoy (Jamesville, N.Y.) added two tallies and registered an assist.

Andrew Donoghue (Rochester, N.Y.), Richie Fischer (Rochester, N.Y.) and Chad Dorrance (Cazenovia, N.Y.) rounded out Mustang scoring with a goal each.

Chris Fiore (Staten Island, N.Y.) collected his second straight win in net, registering 11 saves in the match, five alone in the third quarter.

Donoghue was first to strike for the Mustangs, breaking the scoreless contest at the 8:24 mark in the opening quarter before Beresovoy extended the early Morrisville State lead to two 34 seconds later.

UNE responded with a tally at 6:31 before Fischer regained the two goal advantage with a man-up score at 5:33 for a 3-1 Mustang lead.

In the second, Geswaldo posted an early tally, before UNE came storming back and tallied two straight to send the game into the half with a 4-3 Morrisville State lead.

In the third, Morrisville State came out firing on all cylinders, posting three straight scores within a two minute span, before adding another with 4:28 to go to take an 8-3 lead into the final quarter.

Shannon, who posted an unassisted tally in the third, found the net again in the fourth for his second goal of the day, converting the feed off Geswaldo at 12:50, before securing the win with a final score, unassisted, at the 4:04 mark.

Morrisville State returns to the field Saturday, March 8, against SUNY Geneseo. The contest will be played at Monroe Community College in Rochester at 1 p.m.
