Morrisville State men cruise to 18-6 NEAC win over SUNYIT

MARCY, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College men's lacrosse team posted their fourth straight victory Wednesday evening, cruising to a 18-6 onslaught of North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opponent SUNY IT in Marcy.

The win boosts the Mustangs to 8-2 on the seasons, while they improve to 2-0 in conference play. SUNYIT has yet to post one in the win column, falling to 0-7 overall, 0-2 in NEAC action.

Louie Geswaldo (Lafayette, N.Y.) led Morrisville State with five tallies on the day, while teammate John Sherlock (Tully, N.Y.) added four scores and assisted another two.

Six additional teammates posted tallies, including Richie Fischer (Rochester, N.Y.), Tom Rosaschi (East Syracuse, N.Y.) and Jeremy Beresovoy (Jamesville, N.Y.) who each registered two scores apiece in the win.

Chris Fiore (Staten Island, N.Y.) recorded the win in net, turning away six in the first half of action, before Tyler Catalfano (Rochester, N.Y.) appeared for the final two quarters, making four stops to secure the victory.

SUNYIT had scoring from six different Willdcats, including Tyler Serva , Adam Reynolds and Nicholas Levanti who each posted a goal and recorded an assist in the losing effort.

Jeffrey Melnik was credited with the loss between the pipes for SUNYIT, posting 14 saves, including seven in the third quarter.

SUNYIT took an early 1-0 lead on a Jon Eguren score off a feed from Serva, but the Mustangs went on to score four unanswered tallies, three within three minutes, to claim the 4-1 advantage after the opening quarter.

Sherlock extended the lead to 5-1 with an unassisted tally midway through the second quarter with 8:40 to go. SUNYIT responded with an unassisted score by Levanti, but the Mustangs rattled off five straight, including two within a four second span, to register a 9-2 lead at the break.

Morrisville State continued its offensive dominance in the third quarter, adding four more goals to IT's one, before closing the game with a five score fourth quarter for the conference win.

The Mustangs held the 45-25 advantage in shots and outgained SUNYIT 43-34 in ground balls, while taking advantage of man-up opportunities and converting all three chances into scores.

John Petriello (Carmel, N.Y.) was victorious 13-of-20 times on face-offs as Morrisville State edged the Wildcats 14-13 from the center stripe.

Morrisville State returns to the field Saturday for a critical conference match-up with rival Keuka College at Keuka.
