MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College men's lacrosse team made it a double-header sweep Saturday afternoon, as they topped visiting Wells College 22-6 on Drake Field in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action in Morrisville.
The win lifts Morrisville State to 10-3 overall, 4-1 in conference play, while the Express drop to 3-3, 0-3 in NEAC action.
Louie Geswaldo (Lafayette, N.Y.) led the charge for Morrisville State, who had a total 12 Mustangs register points on the day, with four goals and three assists, while teammate Brendan Shannon (Stanhope, N.J.) added three scores and assisted another three. Eliud Evans (Culver City, Calif.) and Jeremy Beresovoy (Jamesville, N.Y.) each tallied five points, Evans on three goals and two assists, and Beresovoy on four scores and one assist in the winning effort.
Chris Fiore (Staten Island, N.Y.) posted the win in net for the Mustangs, turning away four in the first half of play, before Tyler Catalfano (Rochester, N.Y.) added seven saves in the final two quarters of action.
Alex Milliken (Hilton, N.Y.) posted the hat trick for the visitors, as three additional teammates notched one score each, including Connor Jansen (Horseheads, N.Y.) and Alex Manley (South Buffalo, N.Y.) who also added an assist.
Junior netminder Tyler Bischoff (Allendale, N.J.) put together a 14 save performance for Wells, making nine stops in the first half.
Morrisville State took an early 1-0 lead 39 seconds into the contest as Shannon buried the shot from about 15 yards out on a feed from Tom Rosaschi (East Syracuse, N.Y.), sparking a 3-0 run over the ensuing three minutes of play for a commanding four goal advantage.
The Mustangs posted five more scores throughout the quarter to take a 9-0 lead into the second.
The Mustangs, with scores from Evans, Beresovoy and Joseph Chazen (Brooklyn, N.Y.) jumped out to a 12-0 lead before Milliken was able to place the visitors on the scoreboard, notching an unassisted tally with 1:25 to go in the quarter. That momentum was short lived however, as Beresovoy responded with this third of the half, to send the game into the break with a 13-1 Mustang lead.
In the third quarter, Wells found its offensive prowness and posted three tallies but Morrisville State already built up a big enough lead that became too much for the Express to overcome.
Morrisville State outshot Wells 52-30, and was victorious in ground balls 45-29.
Morrisville State returns to the field next Saturday, hosting Hilbert College at noon in a game that benefits the Wounded Warrior Project.
