Morrisville State takes it down to the wire, posts second straight in thrilling fashion

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College men's lacrosse team took another non-conference game down to the wire Wednesday evening, and came out as victors as they posted the thrilling 8-7 win over visiting Marywood University in Morrisville.

The win is the second straight one goal decision in favor of the Mustangs, who up their record to 2-0 as they head into a third non-conference tilt against Oswego on Saturday.

Morrisville State found themselves trailing for the first time in the contest midway through the fourth quarter as Marywood scored twice in just over a minute's time to take the 7-6 lead with 6:49 to go in regulation.

Inside the five minute mark, Brad Biggs (Tully, N.Y.) maintained possession for the Mustangs and rolled to the right where he found a wide open John Sherlock (Tully, N.Y.) who put the ball away high to tie the contest at seven with 4:19 to go. Sherlock finished with a team high three goals, while Biggs posted a team best two assists.

Morrisville State's Eliud Evans (Culver City, Calif.) made a huge defensive play on the ensuing Pacer offensive possession, intercepting the ball at the top of the box for the Mustangs and quickly making the transition downfield before hitting freshman Logan Peters (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) for the game winner with 1:53 remaining.

Three additional Mustangs posted scores in the win, including Nick Geswaldo (Lafayette, N.Y.) who tallied two and added an assist, Louie Geswaldo (Lafayette, N.Y.) who had a score and assisted another, and Greg Esposito (Yorktown, N.Y.) who had a goal.

Morrisville State dominated the face-off stripe, with senior John Petriello (Carmel, N.Y.) winning 13-of-18; and also held the advantage in the ground ball game, 32-20. Petriello had a game high six ground balls.

Defensively, Chad Izyk (North Syracuse, N.Y.) collected five ground balls and had three take-a-ways, while teammate Chris Fiore (Staten Island, N.Y.) posted the win between the pipes with eight saves.
