Balanced attack has Morrisville State men running past Medaille, 26-10

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Fourteen different men's lacrosse players registered goals Saturday afternoon as host Morrisville State College cruised to a 26-10 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) decision over visiting Medaille College on Drake Field in Morrisville.

The win is the first for the Mustangs in conference play, as they improve to a 2-4 overall record, 1-0 in conference action. Medaille dropped to 1-3, 0-1 in NEAC play.

Morrisville State dominated the contest from the opening whistle, outscoring the visitors 13-3 alone in the first quarter of action. The Mustangs added seven more scores in the second, claiming the commanding 20-5 lead at the break.

Sophomore Gavin MacLachlan (South Onondaga, N.Y.) led Morrisville State with five goals on the day, while teammate Corey Grace (Penn Yan, N.Y.) poured in another four. Teddy Dwyer (Cazenovia, N.Y.) netted three, also assisting one, while teammate's Zach Palin (Lafayette, N.Y.), Eric Fisher (Nutley, N.J.) and Bryan Cline (Cicero, N.Y.) rounded out the Mustang's multi-goal scorers with two apiece.

Shawn Walberger (Fulton, N.Y.) dominated the face-off for the Mustangs, winning 15-of-18 from the center line, while teammate Nate Bizub (Tully, N.Y.) added another 15 wins on 22 attempts, as Morrisville State collected a game total 30 on the day.

Walberger also added nine ground balls and two assists to his tallies on the day.

Morrisville State doubled the Mavericks in the ground ball battle, 50-25, with a team high 10 being picked up by freshman long stick midfielder Jonathan Flores (West Babylon, N.Y.).

All four goalkeepers saw time in net for the Mustangs, but it was starter Tyler Catalfano (Rochester, N.Y.) who picked up the win after playing the first quarter.

Dan Sherlock (Tully, N.Y.) and Nick Martino (Tully, N.Y.) each picked up two saves, appearing in the second and third quarters, before Morrisville State finished out with Paul Gates (West Winfield, N.Y.) in net. Gates collected one save.

Medaille's David Groves led the visitor's offensive efforts with five scores, adding two assists, while teammate Jake Rush and Tyler Fales contributed two each. Connor Meier added the final tally for the Mavericks.

Seth Gregg posted the loss between the pipes for Medaille, turning away nine as Morrisville State held the 53-21 advantage in shots on the day.

Morrisville State returns to the field Wednesday, hosting Bryn Athyn College at 4 p.m. on Drake Field.
