KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – Host Keuka College stunned visiting Morrisville State College Saturday afternoon, upsetting the Mustangs with a 10-5 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) decision on Wolves home field in Keuka Park.
The loss is the first for the Mustangs in regular season conference action, dating back to April 5, 2014, coincidently, on the road at Keuka.
Morrisville State maintains their first place ranking within the conference with a 7-5 overall record, 6-1 NEAC stint, and have one final conference game remaining on their schedule – on the road at Hilbert College on Saturday, April 29.
Sophomore Nick Geswaldo (Lafayette, N.Y.) led the Mustang efforts with four goals and an assist, with the only additional Morrisville State tally coming from Eric Fisher (Nutley, N.J.) midway through the final quarter.
Tyler Catalfano (Rochester, N.Y.) registered 12 stops in the loss between the pipes for the Mustangs, appearing for nearly 58 minutes before being replaced by Nick Martino (Tully, N.Y.) for the final 2:26 of play.
Geswaldo gave the visitors the early 1-0 lead, netting his first of the day off the feed from Logan Peters 1:11 into the opening quarter, and the Mustangs maintained the lead until the 8:07 mark when an unassisted score evened the game at one.
In the second, Keuka took a 2-1 lead midway through before Geswaldo posted his second, knotting the game at two, but the Wolves rallied for three straight to claim the 5-2 advantage at the break.
The Wolves continued in the third, finding the net three times while holding the Mustangs scoreless, opening the game to an 8-2 host lead after three.
Fisher broke the scoring drought for Morrisville State 7:53 in the final frame with the tally off the dish from Geswaldo, before Geswaldo added his third on the extra man opportunity.
Geswaldo posted his fourth in the closing seconds, but it wasn't enough as Keuka collected the win.
Morrisville State returns to the field Tuesday, traveling to non-conference SUNY Oneonta, before wrapping up the regular season on the road at Hilbert on Saturday.
