ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College men's lacrosse team opened the season with a 12-10 road loss Saturday afternoon at host St. John Fisher College in Pittsford.
Senior Trevor Jones (Lafayette, N.Y.) led Morrisville State (0-1) with four goals on the day, while junior Logan Peters (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) notched two scores to go along with three assists.
Nick Geswaldo (Lafayette, N.Y.) added two additional tallies while Chris Dovi (Cortland, N.Y.) and Brad Biggs (Tully, N.Y.) rounded out the Mustang scoring with one goal each, combining for three assists.
Dan Sherlock (Tully, N.Y.) recorded five saves in the loss between the pipes for the Mustangs.
After an early Fisher score less than a minute in Morrisville State rallied for three straight for the 3-1 lead, with strikes coming off three different sticks, including Geswaldo, Jones and Peters. Fisher, though, rallied for two additional goals to even the contest at three after one quarter.
In the second, the Cardinals outgained the Mustangs 3-1 to claim the 6-4 advantage at the half. The lone Morrisville State score was an unassisted tally from Jones midway through the frame.
The third found Fisher taking a commanding 10-4 lead off four straight tallies in the opening three minutes of the quarter, but Morrisville State's Biggs added one, and in the closing 20 seconds, Dovi and Jones added another to cut the deficit to four after three.
Fisher added their final tally 29 seconds into the fourth, before a three goal run by the Mustangs made it a two-goal game with 3:17 to play, 12-10.
That's as close as the Mustangs would get though, as Fisher captured the non-conference win.
Morrisville State returns to the field Wednesday, traveling to SUNY Geneseo for a 5:30 faceoff start.
